Michigan Motor Exchange

Our Mission

We've been rebuilding and installing engines in Southeast Michigan since 1945. With two locations to serve you in Detroit and Waterford, we're able to cover all of Southeast Michigan. We are a family owned and operated company. We have the highest regard for our employees and believe that family comes first. Our values and pride in our work are grown out of our family. We also continue to be active members of our community.

Our Vision

Our business was established by the grace of God. We believe in His principals and them as guidelines when working with our customers and employees. We are all familiar with God's Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." At MICHMO, we interpret this as, "Give an honest job for an honest price."

These are some of the values we hold high in our hearts:

  • We're here to fulfill all our customers' needs.
  • We acknowledge our responsibility towards our customers and dedicate ourselves to build the best engine we possibly can.
  • We'll use our best judgment in guiding our customers to make a better choice.
  • We allow all our employees to use their God-given talent and earn a living for themselves and their loved ones.
  • We aspire to create a work environment where a person grows as an individual and develop his work skills as well.
  • We're interested in you as an individual, in your personal and spiritual welfare, and your work activities.
  • As the employees grow - The company grows
  • As the company prosper - The employees prosper
  • We follow an open-door policy. Any employee at any time can interact with anyone in the management.

Our Community

We have contributed and have been involved in the Southeast Michigan community since our business was established. From being part of the stone soup event in 2006 to refurbishing the classic cars that once cruised on these very roads, our team has always been an active member of the community.

Kenneth guided Michigan Motor Exchange from 1983-2015. His wisdom and vision are still a large part of our legacy and the way we conduct business today.

Customer Classics

Stone Soup 2006

Our team contributed during the Stone Soup Project organized by the Children's Leukemia Foundation by rebuilding the engine for the 1947 nailhead-custom truck. Here are some of the photos from that event.

Quake on the Lake

We had set up a great location during the Quake on the Lake event in 2007 to enjoy the boats and showcase our expertise to the community. Check out some of the pictures from that day.

The History of Our Company

MICHMO has a proud history of providing quality rebuilt engine services in Southeast Michigan for 80+ years! Check out our timeline below to see some of our fondest memories.

1945

MICHMO was founded during the post-war industrial boom. Remanufactured engines from MICHMO could even be purchased through Montgomery Ward's catalogs.

1959

The car pricing of yesteryear can be compared to the engine replacement pricing of today. Can you believe that seat belts were factory options offered at just $20 over the price of a new car?

1962

MICHMO moved to its current manufacturing facility. It has become a landmark in Detroit on 8-Mile road one mile east of I-75.

1968

While Willie Horton was driving 'em out with power for the World Series Champion Detroit Tigers, "Big Moe" was driving 'em in for engine repower. "Big Moe" has long since been retired, but towing for your engine needs can still be arranged through MICHMO.

1983

President, Ken Navarre, of the Navarre Inc, purchased MICHMO to continue its long-standing reputation in the city of Detroit for rebuilding engines.

1984

The new team works to rebuild together.

1985

East Annex expanded to support the growth of engine installations.

1987

MICHMO reached out to the suburbs, opening its first engine remanufacturing and installation center in Waterford, MI for boats, trucks, cars, and RVs.

1993

To expand and make consumers aware of engine replacement options, MICHMO opened a location in Westland, MI. Ken Navarre took his first order on a 2x4 due to a lack of office suppliers the first day!

1994

Ken Navarre dedicated the support of MICHMO to automotive repair education through his commitment to the Michigan Technical Academy.

2001

The great city of Detroit celebrated its tricentennial. Invitations and recognitions were provided to MICHMO for its commitments to the city for over 50 years. In addition, the Navarre family was recognized for their heritage and for taking part in the settlement of Detroit.

2004

Ken Navarre received recognition for his 10-year dedication to the Michigan Technical Academy.

2008

Navarre Inc celebrated its 25th anniversary of ownership of MICHMO.

2013

Navarre Inc celebrated its 30th anniversary. Our family-owned business has been rebuilding engines in Southeast Michigan.
